Label the plan below.

You will hear a librarian talking to a group of visitors about the layout and facilities of a town library. Now listen carefully and answer the questions. Everyone. So here we are at the entrance to the town library. My name is Anne and I'm the chief librarian here and you'll usually find me at the desk just by the main entrance here. So, I'd like to tell you a bit about the way the library is organised and what you'll find where. And you should all have a plan in front of you. Well, as you see, my desk is just on your right as you go in. And opposite this, the first room on your left has an excellent collection of reference books and is also a place where people can read or study peacefully. Just beyond the librarian's desk on the right is a room where we have up-to-date periodicals such as newspapers and magazines, and this room also has a photocopier, in case you want to copy any of the articles. If you carry straight on, You'll come into a large room and this is the main library area. There is fiction in the shelves on the left, and non-fiction materials on your right, and on the shelves on the far wall there is an excellent collection of books relating to local history. We're hoping to add a section on local tourist attractions too later in the year. Through the far door in the library, just past the fiction shelves, is a seminar room, and that can be booked for meetings or talks. And next door to that is the children's library, which has a good collection of stories and picture books for the under elevens. Then there's a large room to the right of the library area. That's the multimedia collection, where you can borrow DVDs and so on. And we also have CD-ROMs you can borrow to use on your computer at home. It was originally the art collection, but that's been moved to another building. And that's about it. Oh, there's also the library office on the left of the librarian's desk. Okay, now does anyone have any questions? Yes, thank you, sir.

Question Focus: The diagram position is a large room to the right of the main library area. We need to label what is there.

Correct Answer: F

Why this is correct: The speaker clearly says this large room is the multimedia collection, where you can borrow DVDs and CD-ROMs. So the correct label is Multimedia.

Passage Reference: Then there's a large room to the right of the library area. That's the multimedia collection, where you can borrow DVDs and so on. And we also have CD-ROMs you can borrow to use on your computer at home.

Common Mistake: Students sometimes choose Art collection because it is mentioned. But the speaker says it was there before and has moved. This is a distractor trap.

Paraphrasing: Transcript: "the multimedia collection" = Diagram: "Multimedia"

Tips: If the speaker says something "was originally" there, be careful. That usually means it is not the answer now.

Key Vocabulary:

  • multimedia = videos and digital items
  • borrow = take and return later

Question Focus: The diagram label is inside the area next to the seminar room. It asks what collection is in that room.

Correct Answer: B

Passage Reference: And next door to that is the children's library, which has a good collection of stories and picture books for the under elevens.

Why this is correct: The diagram shows a room beside the seminar room. The speaker says this room is the children’s library with stories and picture books, which clearly means children’s books.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Meeting room because the speaker mentions meetings just before this. But that is a different room. This is a sequence trap.

Paraphrasing: Transcript: "stories and picture books for the under elevens" = Diagram: "children’s books"

Tips: Listen for phrases like "next door to that" because they show movement to a new place.

Key Vocabulary:

  • under elevens = children
  • picture books = books with pictures

Question Focus: The diagram label is on the far wall of the main library area. It asks what type of books are there.

Correct Answer: D

Passage Reference: on the shelves on the far wall there is an excellent collection of books relating to local history.

Why this is correct: The speaker explains that on the far wall there is a collection of books relating to local history. This matches Local history collection exactly.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Tourist information because it sounds similar. But the speaker says this will be added later. This is a context shift trap.

Paraphrasing: Transcript: "books relating to local history" = Diagram: "Local history collection"

Tips: Listen carefully for future plans like "hoping to add". These are usually not answers.

Key Vocabulary:

  • relating to = about
  • collection = group of items

Question Focus: The diagram position is just beyond the librarian’s desk on the right. We need to identify that room.

Correct Answer: G

Passage Reference: Just beyond the librarian's desk on the right is a room where we have up-to-date periodicals such as newspapers and magazines, and this room also has a photocopier, in case you want to copy any of the articles.

Why this is correct: The speaker says this room has up-to-date periodicals, such as newspapers and magazines. That directly matches Periodicals.

Common Mistake: Students sometimes choose Computers because a photocopier is mentioned. But copying is not the same as computers. This is a partial truth trap.

Paraphrasing: Transcript: "newspapers and magazines" = Diagram: "Periodicals"

Tips: Do not jump to conclusions from one word like "machine". Always listen to the full description.

Key Vocabulary:

  • periodicals = newspapers and magazines
  • up-to-date = current

Question Focus: The diagram label is the first room on the left after entering. It asks what is in that room.

Correct Answer: H

Passage Reference: the first room on your left has an excellent collection of reference books and is also a place where people can read or study peacefully.

Why this is correct: The speaker clearly says the first room on the left has an excellent collection of reference books. So the correct label is Reference books.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Computers because they think of studying. But computers are not mentioned here. This is a paraphrase trap.

Paraphrasing: Transcript: "reference books" = Diagram: "Reference books"

Tips: Use direction words like "first", "left", and "right" to match the diagram carefully.

Key Vocabulary:

  • reference books = books for information
  • peacefully = quietly

General Tips:

  • Diagram labels usually follow the order of the recording. Move step by step with the speaker.
  • Always listen for location phrases like "on the left", "next door", and "just beyond".
  • If the speaker mentions something that used to be there, it is usually a distractor.
  • Read the word list before listening so you know what to listen for.
  • The speaker may add future plans. These are very common traps in diagram questions.
