That was the beginning, but recently the Syrian national council and the free Syrian army have been working together and co-operatically closely together. They are serving different purposes. The Syrian national council is a political pressure group that could help form the nucleus of a transition government, but the army is purely the militant arm or wing of the actual uprising revolution so I don't think they necessarily have to be one or the other, so I think the sooner we step in, the sooner the regional countries, like Turkey, steps in and supports them more openly, it would help provide more of a unified command and control, rather than working in small battalions, and prevent some of the mess in the future. We have to understand that with or without intervention, the war is going to carry on, the people are going to carry on fighting that regime and holding arms, but the sooner we help and support, the less messy it will get.

Option 4: "The passage highlights the cooperation between the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army, explaining their distinct roles in the uprising. The council focuses on political efforts, while the army represents the militant arm of the revolution. Greater intervention and support, particularly from regional powers like Turkey, could help unify the opposition and reduce chaos in the ongoing conflict."

Explanation: This option accurately summarizes the main ideas of the text. It highlights the cooperation between the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army, clearly stating their distinct roles. The mention of greater intervention and support from regional powers like Turkey aligns with the speaker's argument that such support could lead to a more unified opposition and reduce chaos in the conflict.

Option 1: "The speaker discusses the complexities of the Syrian uprising, emphasizing the differences between the political and military aspects of the opposition. They argue that increased external support, particularly from Turkey, could lead to better coordination and command within the opposition forces, ultimately leading to a more organized resistance against the regime."

Explanation: While this option mentions the complexities of the Syrian uprising and the need for external support, it inaccurately implies that the speaker believes this support would lead to a more organized resistance. The text does not suggest that the opposition is currently disorganized due to a lack of support, but rather emphasizes the distinct roles of the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army.

Option 2: "This passage outlines the roles of the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army during the Syrian conflict. It calls for greater external intervention to unify opposition forces and bring about a more coordinated resistance. The speaker believes that intervention would reduce the disorder of small, independent militias fighting against the regime."

Explanation: This option correctly identifies the roles of the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army but misrepresents the speaker's argument. The text does not specifically state that the current situation is characterized by disorder among small, independent militias; instead, it focuses on the cooperation between the two groups and the potential benefits of external support.

Option 3: "The passage explains the different roles of the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army in the revolution against the regime. The speaker calls for earlier intervention from regional powers, particularly Turkey, to provide more structured support to the opposition and prevent further disorder in the ongoing conflict."

Explanation: This option accurately describes the roles of the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army but incorrectly suggests that the speaker is primarily concerned with preventing disorder. The text emphasizes the distinct functions of both groups and the potential for greater intervention to unify them, rather than focusing solely on the need for structured support.
