Most of the universe's stuff is apparently dark matter, invisible material pervading the universe and supplying the bulk of the gravitational attraction holding galaxy clusters together. The matter contained in the visible stars in the cluster isn't enough to keep such clusters from flying apart. Now comes one of the strongest pieces of evidence for dark matter. The Hubble space telescope has found what looks like a ghostly ring, the remnant of a massive collision between two galaxy clusters sometime in the last two billion years. The ring is about 2.6 million light years across and lies about five billion light years from earth. A Johns Hopkins research team noticed the ring. They can't directly see it of course. But they infer its existence because its gravity bends the light of more distant galaxies in the background.

Printed "rehearse", the speaker says "universe"

Explanation: Listen again to "the universe and supplying". You see "rehearse" on the page. The two words start with different letters, so listen from the first letter.

Printed "generational", the speaker says "gravitational"

Explanation: In the audio you hear "gravitational attraction holding". On the page it reads "generational". Both words start with the same letter, so wait for the whole word.

Printed "presumption", the speaker says "attraction"

Explanation: Here the speaker says "gravitational attraction holding". You see "presumption" in the transcript. The words begin with different letters, so listen from the first letter.

Printed "couples", the speaker says "clusters"

Explanation: The speaker says "galaxy clusters together", not "couples". The printed word "couples" is on the page. Both words start with c, so wait for the whole word.

Printed "poulticed", the speaker says "strongest"

Explanation: Listen for "one of the strongest pieces". You can see "poulticed" written there. That printed word makes no sense in this sentence, so trust the audio.

Printed "nethermost", the speaker says "telescope"

Explanation: You will hear "The Hubble space telescope has". The page shows "nethermost" instead. The two words start with different letters, so listen from the start.

"stars" matches the audio

Explanation: "the visible stars in the cluster" sits near changed words and may catch your eye. It looks odd, but the speaker says "stars" exactly, so do not click it.

"ring" matches the audio

Explanation: "what looks like a ghostly ring, the remnant" is close to a changed phrase and may seem tricky. The speaker actually says "ring" exactly, so do not click it.
