Regular listeners of this show will know that I prefer watching serious films because they offer viewers the chance to understand some very interesting themes. For that reason, I wasn’t expecting much when I went to see a comedy last week. However, I’m happy to say that Animal Palace actually changed my opinion! Firstly, the exciting plot kept me wondering what was going to happen next. In fact, I was surprised about how complex the story was. But I don’t mean that as a negative thing. I just mean that the film included a discussion of lots of ideas that were new to me, and that encouraged me to want to learn more. I’d highly recommend this film.

Printed "cartoon", the speaker says "comedy"

Explanation: Listen again to "see a comedy last week". You see "cartoon" on the page, but the audio says a different word. Both words start with c, so listen to the whole word.

Printed "mind", the speaker says "opinion"

Explanation: In the audio you hear "changed my opinion". The printed word "mind" is nearby, so do not trust the page here. The first letters differ, so focus on the sound.

Printed "guessing", the speaker says "wondering"

Explanation: Here the speaker says "kept me wondering what". That printed word reads "guessing", but the audio uses another word. They end the same, so listen from the start of the word.

Printed "complicated", the speaker says "complex"

Explanation: The speaker says "how complex the story", not "complicated". It appears as "complicated" in the transcript, yet the speaker uses a shorter word. Both start with c, so wait for the whole word.

Printed "involved", the speaker says "included"

Explanation: Listen for "the film included a". On the page it shows "involved", but the audio gives a different word. Both words end the same way, so follow the audio, not the print.

"Palace" matches the audio

Explanation: "Animal Palace actually changed" looks like a strange name, but it is exactly printed here. The speaker also says it as written, so do not click it.

"films" matches the audio

Explanation: "prefer watching serious films" may catch your eye as odd, but it matches the audio exactly. Do not click this word.
