You will see a video about animal introductions from the 1995 educational game Zootopia. Listen to the recording and answer the question by selecting all the correct responses. You will need to select more than one response.
This is a Madagascar hissing cockroach and it comes from the island of Madagascar, which is a great Big Island right next to Africa. This animal lives in the rainforest, and it spends its time crawling around and looking for things to eat. Mostly it likes to eat leaves and plants that have fallen to the forest floor and are laying there, and this guy basically chews them up and turns them into dirt. He doesn't sting. He's not poisonous, so he's not very well protected to keep himself from getting eaten. This animal has a trick. When an animal tries to eat the cockroach, what he'll do is push air out through tiny holes on the sides of his body and that does two things. First of all, it makes his body flat. If you've ever tried to pick a dime up off the floor, you know it's hard to pick things up that are flat second of all, it makes a loud noise that sounds like. You can imagine if you were about to eat your sandwich and it suddenly made a hissing sound, you would probably drop it. And that's what happens when this guy gets ready. If somebody goes to eat him and he goes, it startles the animal into dropping him. And then he can crawl away. This is a kinkajou. It comes from the rainforests of central and South America.

Option 1: "It makes a hissing sound to startle potential predators."

Explanation: The text states that when threatened, the Madagascar hissing cockroach pushes air out through tiny holes in its body, producing a loud hissing noise. This sound startles potential predators, causing them to drop the cockroach, allowing it to escape. This directly supports the option as a defense mechanism.

Option 2: "It relies on its poisonous bite to deter predators."

Explanation: The text explicitly mentions that the Madagascar hissing cockroach is not poisonous and does not have a sting. Therefore, this option is incorrect as it contradicts the information provided in the text.

Option 3: "The cockroach uses its wings to fly away from predators."

Explanation: The text does not mention anything about the Madagascar hissing cockroach using wings or flying. In fact, it focuses on its crawling behavior and defense mechanisms, making this option incorrect.

Option 4: "Feeds on leaves and plants on the forest floor."

Explanation: The text describes how the Madagascar hissing cockroach primarily eats leaves and fallen plants on the forest floor. This is a direct reference to its feeding habits, confirming this option as correct.

Option 5: "The cockroach can become flat, making it hard to be picked up."

Explanation: The text explains that when the cockroach hisses, it makes its body flat, which makes it difficult for predators to pick it up. This characteristic is clearly stated in the text, supporting this option as correct.

Option 6: "It has a bright coloration to warn off predators."

Explanation: The text does not mention any bright coloration of the Madagascar hissing cockroach as a defense mechanism. Instead, it focuses on its hissing sound and flat body, making this option incorrect.
