You will see a video about the debate over the pandas. Listen to the recording and answer the question by selecting all the correct responses. You will need to select more than one response.
There has long been a controversy regarding the pandas’ heritage. Olli Ryder is the San Diego Zoo geneticist. That was first named as a bear therein, after other people looked at the material on basically an analysis of the skull of the of the hands and so forth. And there were some differences of opinion about really, whether it was a bear or not. The one who the experts would say, well, it's clearly more raccoon-like and others would say it's clearly more bear-like. Now when you look where they fall on the family trees of carnivores, they fall smack dab with the bears. Because their habitat is shrinking in the wild, the giant panda is highly endangered. A massive die-off of their main food, bamboo, has left many pandas sick or starving. As a result, the Chinese government has set aside 11 preserves to protect their national treasure. Scientists are redoubling their efforts to find ways to save them. We are all involved in the effort. We connect with these animals, perhaps more uniquely than with some others, but that connection we simply don't want to lose. We don't want our children to lose that connection, and so that's reason enough because we are now in charge. It's all just it's up to us whether these animals survive or not. To many of the millions of visitors to the San Diego Zoo, the Panda's six-month visit was much too short as Bossy. Yan Yan and their keepers board their United Airlines flight to Beijing. We all hope that these living symbols of the world's endangered species will be able to return for future generations.

Option 1: "The controversy over the panda's classification involves its similarity to both raccoons and bears."

Explanation: The text discusses the differing opinions among experts regarding the classification of pandas, stating that some believe they are more raccoon-like while others argue they are more bear-like. This directly supports the statement about the controversy involving both animals.

Option 2: "Olli Ryder declared pandas to be more raccoon-like based on genetic analysis."

Explanation: The text does not state that Olli Ryder declared pandas to be more raccoon-like; rather, it mentions differing opinions among experts without attributing a specific classification to Ryder. Therefore, this statement misrepresents the information.

Option 3: "The Chinese government has established over 20 preserves for panda conservation."

Explanation: The text specifies that the Chinese government has set aside 11 preserves for panda conservation, not over 20. This makes the statement factually incorrect.

Option 4: "Pandas are considered highly endangered due to the reduction of their natural habitat and food source."

Explanation: The text clearly states that the giant panda is highly endangered due to shrinking habitat and a massive die-off of bamboo, their main food source. This directly supports the statement regarding their endangered status.

Option 5: "The San Diego Zoo's pandas, Bossy and Yan Yan, embarked on a flight to Beijing after a year-long stay."

Explanation: The text mentions that Bossy and Yan Yan were on a flight to Beijing after a six-month visit, not a year-long stay. This discrepancy makes the statement incorrect.

Option 6: "Efforts to conserve pandas include creating preserves and increasing scientific research to find conservation solutions."

Explanation: The text indicates that the Chinese government has set aside preserves and that scientists are redoubling their efforts to find ways to save pandas, which aligns with the statement about conservation efforts.
