Interior architecture is defined as the study of spaces and spatial experiences, using the language of architecture, and with the goal of addressing and resolving issues of habitation. Interior Architecture at Victoria teaches students to design the 3D 'architecture' of an interior. In this sense it is very different from interior 'design' programs offered elsewhere in New Zealand, that deal only with 2D surface treatments. Interior Architecture students have a unique advantage in sharing common courses with Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Architecture History and Theory and Building Science students, within a facility devoted to the study of the built environment. Students are trained to take a strong personal position in relation to design, to experiment and to reflect on the implications of their design position. Our aim is to prepare students for leadership roles in the interior discipline. Our Interior Architecture graduates are trained to become specialists in the design of architectural space and spatial experience. Students are taught to explore how time, movement and perception challenge presumed boundaries between the pragmatic and the theoretical, and even between the habitable and the mythological. Our graduates have gone on to design spaces for buildings, spaces for cities, spaces for movie narratives, spaces for video games—any career that requires a specialized knowledge of how we interact within space.

Option 1: "Show a distinction between this course and others"

Explanation: The text highlights how Interior Architecture at Victoria is different from other interior design programs in New Zealand, specifically noting that it focuses on 3D architecture rather than just 2D surface treatments. This distinction is a key aim of the writer, as it emphasizes the unique approach of the course.

Option 2: "Give information about the course timetable"

Explanation: The text does not mention anything about the course timetable. It focuses on the aims, distinctions, and training provided in the Interior Architecture program, making this option irrelevant.

Option 3: "Explain the rationale of the course"

Explanation: The passage explains the rationale behind the Interior Architecture course by discussing its goals, such as preparing students for leadership roles and training them to become specialists in architectural space. This aligns with the writer's aim to clarify the purpose and significance of the course.

Option 4: "Describe the course location for new students"

Explanation: The text does not provide any details about the course location. It focuses on the content and aims of the program rather than logistical information, making this option incorrect.

Option 5: "Students are given training in every field."

Explanation: The text specifically discusses training in Interior Architecture and related fields, but it does not claim that students receive training in every field. This statement is too broad and not supported by the text.
