He is determined to take her to the best restaurant in town, even if it means that he will have to live on memories and hopes during the month to come.
Here's a familiar version of the boy-meets-girl situation.
When they get to the restaurant, he discovers that this ethereal creature is on a diet. She mustn't eat this and she mustn't that.
A young man has at last plucked up courage to invite a dazzling young lady out to dinner. She has accepted his invitation and he is overjoyed.
Oh, but of course, she doesn't want to spoil his enjoyment. Let him by all means eat as much fattening food as he wants: it's the surest way tan early grave. They spend a truly memorable evening together and never see each other again.

First sentence: Why this is the first line? This paragraph is the first sentence because it introduces the main topic of the story. It gives a broad overview of the situation. It does not refer to any previous information. Why other lines are not chosen? Paragraph 2 starts with 'A young man' which is specific and does not stand alone. Paragraph 3 starts with 'He is determined' which uses a pronoun and needs context. Paragraph 4 starts with 'When they get' which is a dependent clause. Paragraph 5 starts with 'Oh, but of course' which is a continuation of thought.

Concluding sentence: Why this is the last line? This paragraph is the last sentence because it wraps up the story. It gives the final outcome of the evening they spent together.

Paragraph pairs:

  • Pair 1 (Paragraph 1 → Paragraph 2): This pair connects because Paragraph 2 gives a specific example of the general situation mentioned in Paragraph 1. This follows the Broader to Specific Strategy.
  • Pair 2 (Paragraph 2 → Paragraph 3): This pair connects because Paragraph 3 continues the story of the young man after he has invited the lady to dinner. It shows his determination, following the Logical Order.
  • Pair 3 (Paragraph 3 → Paragraph 4): This pair connects because Paragraph 4 describes what happens when they arrive at the restaurant. It follows the Chronological Order.
  • Pair 4 (Paragraph 4 → Paragraph 5): This pair connects because Paragraph 5 shows the outcome of their dinner together. It follows the Cause and Effect Relationship.
