Paragraph list

Since independence, every political party has played communal card whenever election time draws near.
In fact, the caste and communal cards have been fine-tuned to an art form in the political games that are played in this country.
This was seen when the Youth Congress (I) goons were given a free hand to terrorise Sikhs all over the country after Indira Gandhi's assassination.
When each party carefully selects political candidates on the basis of religion or caste, it is encouraging and continuing the divide-and-rule tactics of its colonial masters.
And no political party can absolve itself on this count; worse, political parties take on board hoodlums and gangsters who use their clout in political circles to settle scores and extract money.

First sentence: Why this is the first line? This paragraph is the first line because it introduces the main topic of political parties and their actions during elections. It is a general statement that does not need other sentences for context. It does not use any pronouns or definite articles that refer to previous ideas. Why other lines are not chosen? Paragraph 2 starts with 'In fact,' which is a conjunction. Paragraph 3 starts with 'This was seen,' which uses a pronoun that refers back to something not yet mentioned. Paragraph 4 starts with 'When each party,' which is not independent. Paragraph 5 starts with 'And no political party,' which also uses a conjunction.

Concluding sentence: Why this is the last line? This paragraph is the last line because it gives a specific example that wraps up the discussion about political parties and their actions. It shows the result of the tactics mentioned earlier. This follows the 'Conclusive Words' rule, as it provides a clear ending to the topic.

Paragraph pairs:

  • Pair 1 (Paragraph 1 → Paragraph 2): This pair connects because Paragraph 2 explains how political parties select candidates based on religion or caste. This shows the action mentioned in Paragraph 1. It follows the 'Logical Order' rule.
  • Pair 2 (Paragraph 2 → Paragraph 3): This pair connects because Paragraph 3 gives more detail about the tactics mentioned in Paragraph 2. It uses the 'Broader to Specific Strategy' rule, where the second paragraph gives a specific example of the general idea in the first.
  • Pair 3 (Paragraph 3 → Paragraph 4): This pair connects because Paragraph 4 continues the discussion about political parties and their actions. It shows the consequences of the tactics mentioned in Paragraph 3. This follows the 'Logical Order' rule.
  • Pair 4 (Paragraph 4 → Paragraph 5): This pair connects because Paragraph 5 provides a specific example of the actions mentioned in Paragraph 4. It follows the 'Topic Example' rule, where the second paragraph gives an example that supports the first.
