Paragraph list

Today there are nine intelligences, and the possibility of others may eventually expand the list.
Many of us are familiar with three broad categories in which people learn: visual learning, auditory learning, and kinesthetic learning.
Beyond these three categories, many theories of and approaches toward human learning potential have been established.
Gardner's early work in psychology and later in human cognition and human potential led to his development of the initial six intelligences.
Among them is the theory of multiple intelligences developed by Howard Gardner, Ph.D., John H. and Elisabeth A. Hobbs Research Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education at Harvard University.

First sentence: Why this is the first line? This paragraph is the first sentence because it introduces the main topic of learning styles. It gives a broad overview of the three categories of learning without going into details. This follows the rule of Topic Sentence. Why other lines are not chosen? The other paragraphs are not chosen because they do not stand alone. For example, Paragraph 2 starts with "Beyond these three categories," which needs the first paragraph for context. Paragraph 3 uses "Among them," which also needs prior information. Paragraph 4 and Paragraph 5 both refer to specific ideas that need earlier context.

Concluding sentence: Why this is the last line? This paragraph is the last sentence because it wraps up the discussion about intelligences. It gives a final thought on the current number of intelligences and the possibility of more. This follows the Conclusive Words rule.

Paragraph pairs:

  • Pair 1 (Paragraph 1 → Paragraph 2): Paragraph 2 connects to Paragraph 1 because it uses the word "Beyond". This shows a logical order where it continues from the three categories to other theories. This follows the Logical Order rule.
  • Pair 2 (Paragraph 2 → Paragraph 3): Paragraph 3 connects to Paragraph 2 because it starts with "Among them". This shows that it is giving a specific example of the theories mentioned in Paragraph 2. This follows the Broader to Specific Strategy.
  • Pair 3 (Paragraph 3 → Paragraph 4): Paragraph 4 connects to Paragraph 3 because it talks about Gardner's work, which is the subject of Paragraph 3. This follows the Object Subject Strategy, where the object in Paragraph 3 becomes the subject in Paragraph 4.
  • Pair 4 (Paragraph 4 → Paragraph 5): Paragraph 5 connects to Paragraph 4 because it continues the discussion about intelligences. It shows a logical order where it explains the current state of intelligences after discussing Gardner's work. This follows the Logical Order rule.
