You will see a video about the ground-breaking research on teaching chimpanzees. At the end of the recording the last word or group of words has been replaced by a beep. Select the correct option to complete the recording.
At Central Washington University, Roger and Debbie Founts have been studying animal communication with some star pupils, chimpanzees who have been taught American Sign Language. Well, the early research that started with cross-fostering or humans raising chimpanzees as if they were children focused on the early years. Kellogg and Kellogg raised a chimp by the name of Gua in their home for about 9 months along with their son Donald, and then, of course, there's the Hayes's very famous research in the late 40s and 50s where they raised a chimpanzee by the name of Vicky for six years, attempting to teach her vocal speech. Those were failures. The exciting thing for us was it opened up a whole new area for us with the remote videotape we took the human element with data collection completely out for that (period of time ).

Option 4: "period of time"

Explanation: This option accurately reflects the text's context, indicating a general duration during which the human element was removed from data collection. It aligns with the overall theme of the text, which discusses the timeline of research efforts.

Option 1: "period of experimentation"

Explanation: This option suggests a specific duration focused on experimentation. However, the text does not emphasize experimentation as the main focus; instead, it refers to a broader timeframe. Therefore, it does not accurately reflect the context.

Option 2: "moment of observation"

Explanation: This option implies a brief instance of observation, which contradicts the text's reference to a longer duration. The phrase 'period of time' indicates a more extended duration, making this option incorrect.

Option 3: "phase of research"

Explanation: While this option relates to research, it suggests a specific stage rather than a general timeframe. The text discusses a continuous duration, which is better captured by 'period of time,' thus making this option unsuitable.
