Instructions ›
You will hear a recording. At the end of the recording the last word or group of words has been replaced by a beep. Select the correct option to complete the recording.
I’m very disappointed with Love lock’s change of ideas. He was somebody who had a lot of interesting ideas about the environment, and I’m sad that he has turned his back on what he said before. There's no way nuclear power is safe. It's just as harmful to the environment as traditional fossil fuels, and as well as that, there's the enormous risk of storing nuclear waste. A brave statement from a very interesting man. Our party has always had a strong record on defending the environment, and looking at environmental problems in a constructive way. I’m glad to see that a distinguished scientist agrees with us. We want to build more nuclear power stations, and defend the environment and now we can! The problem with James Love lock is that he isn’t really a scientist. He has lots of experience in different fields, and I respect him, he’s certainly an intelligent man. But a lot of his theories have never really had that much support in the serious scientific community they’ve been picked up by lots of other people, green campaigners and such. I wouldn’t - listen to him too much.

Option 2: "listen to him too much"

Explanation: This option accurately reflects the speaker's sentiment expressed in the text. The phrase 'I wouldn’t - listen to him too much' directly aligns with the speaker's caution regarding Love lock's theories, emphasizing skepticism about his credibility despite acknowledging his intelligence.

Option 1: "induct him in scientific community"

Explanation: This option suggests that the speaker believes James Love lock should be accepted into the scientific community. However, the text indicates a lack of support for Love lock's theories within the serious scientific community, making this option contradictory to the author's viewpoint.

Option 3: "defend the environment"

Explanation: While the text discusses defending the environment, this option does not fit the context of the sentence. The speaker is expressing a warning about Love lock's ideas rather than advocating for environmental defense, making this option irrelevant to the main point.

Option 4: "purchase a nuclear power reactor"

Explanation: This option introduces a completely different action that is not supported by the text. The speaker discusses nuclear power in a critical context, focusing on the risks rather than advocating for purchasing reactors, thus making this option unrelated to the speaker's message.
