Instructions ›
You will hear a recording. At the end of the recording the last word or group of words has been replaced by a beep. Select the correct option to complete the recording.
What we see in healthcare is not like what we see in any other economic market. It’s sad, it’s amusing, it’s baffling, which is why I undertook this book. Basically, if you look at drug prices for example there was a miraculous drug called Glivac which really changed cancer patients life when it came out 15-20 years ago. Now there are many many copycat versions of Glivac. We call them in profession sons of Glivac and they are all 4-5 times more expensive than Glivac was when it came out. So if you are looking at a world where economic markets worked you would think there are 10 of these now so - the price should have come down.

Option 4: "the price should have come down"

Explanation: This option accurately reflects the author's argument that with the introduction of many copycat versions of Glivac, the price should logically decrease due to competition. The text explicitly states that in a functioning economic market, prices would drop with increased availability, making this the correct choice.

Option 1: "there is no need for more"

Explanation: This option suggests that the market is saturated and does not require additional products. However, the text indicates that there are many copycat versions of Glivac, implying that there is still demand and potential for more products, making this option inconsistent with the context.

Option 2: "there is room for a lot more"

Explanation: While this option implies that the market can accommodate more products, the text focuses on the pricing issue rather than the quantity of products available. The author discusses how prices should decrease with more competition, which contradicts the idea that there is room for more without addressing the price dynamics.

Option 3: "the price should have gone up"

Explanation: This option contradicts the main idea presented in the text. The author argues that with the introduction of multiple versions of Glivac, the price should decrease, not increase. Therefore, this option does not align with the author's argument regarding market behavior.
