Practice Listening: Multiple Choice, Single Answer ID: #43897 Short Delegation
Instructions ›
You will see a video discussing the importance of autonomy in delegation and how to manage it effectively. Listen to the recording and answer the multiple-choice question by selecting the correct response. Only one response is correct.
During the handover phase, you'll want to get clear about how much autonomy you're giving the employee to do this task. Make sure that they share the same understanding as you. Autonomy is the level of independence a person has to complete a task. One of the most frequent problems that happens in delegation is lack of clarity about the level of autonomy being given. I cannot emphasise enough how important this aspect is to successful delegation. There are actually eight different levels of autonomy you can give your employee, with level one being the least amount of autonomy and level 8 being the most. These were identified by Ross Webber, who's offered several books on management, and I'm expanding on his idea. I know that for myself, learning about the 8 levels changed the way I delegated for the better. I was much more clear with both myself and my delegate. Which made the whole process better for everyone. These levels are differentiated by 4 things. The level of analysis the delegate provides, who makes the decision, who takes action, and the amount of communication that takes place.

According to the speaker, what is one of the most common problems in delegation?

Option 4: "Lack of clarity about the level of autonomy"

Explanation: This option is correct because the text explicitly states that one of the most frequent problems in delegation is the lack of clarity about the level of autonomy being given. This directly supports the main idea of the text, which emphasizes the importance of understanding autonomy in the delegation process.

Option 1: "Lack of employee skills"

Explanation: This option is incorrect because the text does not mention employee skills as a problem in delegation. The focus is on clarity regarding autonomy, not on the skills of the employee.

Option 2: "Misunderstanding the task requirements"

Explanation: While misunderstanding task requirements can be an issue, the text specifically highlights lack of clarity about autonomy as a more frequent problem. Therefore, this option does not align with the main idea presented.

Option 3: "Inadequate resources provided"

Explanation: This option is incorrect as the text does not discuss resource allocation as a problem in delegation. The emphasis is on the clarity of autonomy, making this option irrelevant.
