Instructions ›
Listen to the recording and answer the multiple-choice question by selecting the correct response. Only one response is correct.
No, I don't want to live on a tropical island and a friend of mine once told me you should never live in paradise and I think that's good advice because I think I would get bored of it quite quickly and I don't like really hot weather. I quite like well I'm from the north of England where it's quite cold a lot of the year and I really miss like the snow and the ice and the Rain it sounds a bit strange, but it's it's what I'm used to and it's it's what's home for me really but I do enjoy visiting tropical islands and I've been on holiday to Mauritius before because a friend of mine lives there and it's great for a couple of weeks to enjoy the sun maybe some cocktails by the beach just some relaxing times away from work but I'd always miss home and I'd get home sick so I'd want to come home I think.

Option 1: "He is used to the cold weather."

Explanation: The speaker explicitly states that he is from the north of England where it is quite cold a lot of the year, indicating that he is accustomed to this type of weather. This aligns with the main idea of the text, which emphasizes his preference for cold weather over tropical climates.

Option 2: "He has never been to a beach."

Explanation: This option is incorrect because the speaker mentions visiting tropical islands and specifically states that he has been on holiday to Mauritius, which implies he has been to a beach. Therefore, this statement contradicts the information provided in the text.

Option 3: "He spent only two weeks in Mauritius."

Explanation: While the speaker does mention enjoying a couple of weeks in Mauritius, this option does not address why he likes cold weather. It provides partial information about his holiday but does not relate to his feelings about the cold weather, making it irrelevant to the question.

Option 4: "He gets bored of the tropical climate easily."

Explanation: Although the speaker expresses a preference for cold weather and mentions that he would get bored living in paradise, this option is misleading. It suggests a definitive conclusion about his feelings towards the tropical climate, which is not explicitly stated in the text. Instead, he focuses on his longing for home and the cold weather he is used to.
