Question Focus: Outdoor sport activity involving physical movement outside

Why this is correct: The answer is The Great Outdoors - Orienteering because the passage clearly says it is an outdoor activity and mentions hiking and mountain-bike riding, which are sports done outside. This matches the idea of outdoor sport exactly.

Passage Reference: Orienteering is an outdoor activity that combines adventure and sport with navigational skills through the bush. Take a hike or mountain-bike ride through a set course in a different bush cm- farm location on each excursion with guidance from a compass and a map.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Mountain Designs Adventure Race Australia first because it sounds more exciting. This is a Wrong section trap because the question asks for the 1st activity, and the passage lists orienteering first.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'outdoor activity... hike or mountain-bike ride' = Statement: 'outdoor sport'

Tips: When a question asks for more than one answer, follow the order in the question carefully.

Key Vocabulary:

  • orienteering = outdoor navigation sport
  • hike = long walk

Question Focus: Outdoor competitive sports involving physical endurance

Passage Reference: Adventure Race Australia heightens the thrill of adventure racing, combining biking, running, trekking, kayaking, rock climbing and other adventure sports to test physical strength, endurance and willpower.

Why this is correct: The answer is Mountain Designs Adventure Race Australia because it lists many outdoor sports like biking, running, trekking and kayaking. These are all physical activities done outside.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Orienteering again because it is also outdoors. This is a Partial truth trap. The question asks for the second different activity, not the same one twice.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'biking, running, trekking, kayaking' = Statement: 'outdoor sport'

Tips: If the question says two activities, make sure you give two different texts.

Key Vocabulary:

  • trekking = long difficult walk
  • endurance = ability to continue for a long time

Question Focus: Music performance for people who enjoy music

Passage Reference: Louis Armstrong revolutionised American jazz and dominated the scene for more than 60 years. He defines the jazz style and is a legendary figure in music history. Conductor Benjamin Northey will accompany trumpeter James Morrison to pay tribute to the famous musician by playing some of his most well-known and beloved hits.

Why this is correct: The answer is A Tribute to Louis Armstrong because the passage focuses on jazz music and live performance of famous songs. This clearly suits music lovers.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Memorable Movies in Midland because it includes sound and actors. This is a Context shift trap because it is about films, not music.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'jazz... beloved hits' = Statement: 'music lovers enjoy'

Tips: Match the main theme of the activity, not small related ideas.

Key Vocabulary:

  • tribute = show of respect
  • hits = popular songs

Question Focus: Regular event happening once every month

Passage Reference: Take a trip down memory lane at the Memorable Movies gathering, held once a month.

Why this is correct: The answer is Memorable Movies in Midland because the passage directly says it is held once a month. This is an exact match.

Common Mistake: Some students choose The Great Outdoors because it happens on Sundays. This is a Time/tense trap. Sundays does not mean monthly.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'held once a month' = Statement: 'held monthly'

Tips: When you see time words like monthly, scan for exact frequency phrases.

Key Vocabulary:

  • monthly = once a month
  • gathering = event

Question Focus: Science-based activity suitable for younger people

Passage Reference: g Guests use forensic science to obtain evidence and solve the crimes.

Why this is correct: The answer is Whodunnit? Exhibition because it involves forensic science and solving crimes, which is exciting and educational for young science lovers.

Common Mistake: Some students choose Orienteering because it mentions learning skills. This is a Paraphrase trap. The skills there are navigation, not science.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'forensic science... obtain evidence' = Statement: 'science lovers'

Tips: Think about who the activity is designed for, not just whether learning is involved.

Key Vocabulary:

  • forensic = related to crime investigation
  • evidence = proof

General Tips:

  • Matching Features can jump around the passage - do not assume answers follow passage order.
  • Scan for keywords like music, science, monthly, or outdoor to locate the right text quickly.
  • Options CAN be used more than once, so never cross them off after one use.
  • Always match the main idea of the statement, not just one small word.
