The findings from this initial experiment were extensive. After reviewing the outcomes and discussing the implications for the game design with our internal game production team, we then outlined the designing needs and presented the findings to a firm specializing in game design. We worked closely with those experts to set the game design for the two preschool-targeted DS games under development on what we had gathered.

As the two DS games went into the development process, a formative research course of action was set up. Whenever we developed new game mechanics, we brought preschoolers into our in-house utility lab to test the mechanics and to evaluate both their simplicity, and whether they were engaging. We tested either alpha or beta versions of different elements of the game, in addition to looking at overarching game structure. Once a full version of the DS game was ready, we went back into the field test with a dozen preschoolers and their parents to make sure that each of the game elements worked for the children, and that the overall objective of the game was understandable and the process was enjoyable for players. We also collected parent’s feedback on whether they thought the game is appropriate, engaging, and worth the purchase.

Question Focus: The diagram shows the stage where the findings were presented to an outside organisation. We need to know who received the findings.

Correct Answer: C

Why this is correct: The diagram shows that after reviewing the results, the findings were presented to someone outside the team. The passage clearly says they presented the findings to a firm specializing in game design, so the answer is firm.

Passage Reference: we then outlined the designing needs and presented the findings to a firm specializing in game design.

Common Mistake: Some students choose worked because the passage says they worked closely with experts. But that describes cooperation, not who received the findings. This is a context shift trap.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'presented the findings to a firm specializing in game design' = Diagram: 'findings presented to a ___'

Tips: Look for nouns after verbs like presented or given. They usually tell you who or what receives something.

Key Vocabulary:

  • firm = company
  • presented = showed or gave

Question Focus: The diagram describes what aspect of the game mechanics was evaluated during testing with preschoolers.

Correct Answer: H

Passage Reference: Whenever we developed new game mechanics, we brought preschoolers into our in-house utility lab to test the mechanics and to evaluate both their simplicity, and whether they were engaging.

Why this is correct: The diagram sentence talks about what the children evaluated in the lab. The passage says the mechanics were tested for their simplicity and whether they were engaging, so the correct label is simplicity.

Common Mistake: Students often pick utility because testing happens in a utility lab. But the question asks what was evaluated, not where the testing happened. This is a wrong section trap.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'evaluate both their simplicity' = Diagram: 'evaluated their ___'

Tips: Do not match words just because they are close together. Always check the role they play in the sentence.

Key Vocabulary:

  • simplicity = how easy something is
  • mechanics = how a game works

Question Focus: The diagram moves to the stage when the game was complete before field testing.

Correct Answer: F

Passage Reference: Once a full version of the DS game was ready, we went back into the field test with a dozen preschoolers and their parents to make sure that each of the game elements worked for the children, and that the overall objective of the game was understandable and the process was enjoyable for players.

Why this is correct: The diagram shows the step when testing moved into the field. The passage says this happened once a full version of the DS game was ready, so the correct answer is full version.

Common Mistake: Some students choose target because the game is for preschoolers. But this label is about the stage of development, not the audience. This is a context shift trap.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'once a full version of the DS game was ready' = Diagram: 'when the ___ was ready'

Tips: In process diagrams, watch for time words like once, after, or when. They signal the next step.

Key Vocabulary:

  • full version = complete form
  • field test = testing in real situations

Question Focus: The final diagram label asks what information was gathered from parents.

Correct Answer: D

Passage Reference: We also collected parent's feedback on whether they thought the game is appropriate, engaging, and worth the purchase

Why this is correct: The diagram ends with information gathered from parents. The passage clearly says they collected parent's feedback, so the correct answer is feedback.

Common Mistake: Students sometimes choose collected because it appears in the same sentence. But the blank needs a noun, not a verb. This is a grammar form trap.

Paraphrasing: Passage: 'collected parent's feedback' = Diagram: 'parents gave ___'

Tips: Check the grammar of the diagram sentence. Make sure your answer fits as the correct word type.

Key Vocabulary:

  • feedback = opinions
  • appropriate = suitable

General Tips:

  • Diagram labels usually follow the order of the passage. Find the first answer, then move forward.
  • Always read the whole sentence around the blank on the diagram to understand what type of word is missing.
  • If two options look related, check which one answers the exact question being asked, not just the same topic.
  • Cross out each option after you use it so you do not reuse it by mistake.
