Astronomers have discovered a trove of galaxies that are virtually invisible—because they're made almost entirely of dark matter. The Subaru telescope in Hawaii spotted 854 of these oddballs, which are referred to as “ultradiffuse galaxies," by detecting what little light they do produce. They were all found in what's called the Coma Cluster of galaxies. The report is in the Astrophysical Journal Letters. Of course, scientists still do not know just what dark matter is. But they can detect its presence through its gravitational effects on the normal matter that we can see. That’s how we know that dark matter seems to be ubiquitous in the universe—especially in these newly found, barely visible galaxies. Many of these galaxies are about the size, of our Milky Way, but contain just a thousandth as many stars, Researchers estimate that dark matter accounts for 99 percent of these galaxies’ mass.

Printed "tonalities", the speaker says "galaxies"

Explanation: Listen for "a trove of galaxies". You see "tonalities" written there. The words start with different letters, so listen to the first sound of the word.

Printed "vacuously", the speaker says "virtually"

Explanation: You will hear "that are virtually invisible". You can spot "vacuously" in the text. Both words start with the same letter, so wait for the whole word before you decide.

Printed "original", the speaker says "Astrophysical"

Explanation: On the recording the words are "the Astrophysical Journal Letters". You will find "original" in the line. The spoken word is much longer, so listen for the longer name.

Printed "weapons", the speaker says "presence"

Explanation: Listen again to "detect its presence through". That printed option, "weapons", makes no sense here. The words end differently, so trust the audio.

Printed "timeservers", the speaker says "Researchers"

Explanation: In the audio you hear "Researchers estimate that dark". On the page it shows "timeservers". The words start with different letters, and both end the same, so listen to the start.

"ultradiffuse" matches the audio

Explanation: "referred to as 'ultradiffuse galaxies," may look odd. It is exactly what the speaker says, so do not click it.

"Coma" matches the audio

Explanation: "what's called the Coma Cluster of galaxies." has a name that looks simple but firm. The speaker says it exactly as printed, so do not click it.
