Relativity is one of the most famous scientific theories of the 20th century. But how well does it explain the things we see? In our daily lives. Formulated by Albert Einstein in 1905, the theory of relativity is the notion that the laws of physics are the same everywhere. The theory explains the behavior of objects in space and time, and it can be used to predict everything from the existence of black holes to light bending due to gravity to the behavior of the planet Mercury in its orbit. The theory is deceptively simple. First, there is no absolute frame of reference. Every time you measure an object's velocity or its momentum, or how it experiences time, it's always in relation to something else. Second, the speed of light is the same no matter who measures it or how fast the person measuring it is going. Third, nothing can go faster than light.

Printed "resemble", the speaker says "relativity"

Explanation: Listen again to "the theory of relativity". The printed word shares the first letter r, so listen to the whole word.

Printed "drain", the speaker says "space"

Explanation: In the audio you hear "in space and time". The two words start with different letters, so follow your ears.

Printed "drilling", the speaker says "deceptively"

Explanation: Here the speaker says "is deceptively simple". The printed and spoken words share the first letter d, and the spoken word is much longer.

Printed "fringe", the speaker says "frame"

Explanation: The speaker says "no absolute frame of reference", not "fringe". They start with the same letter, but they end differently, so listen to the end.

Printed "space", the speaker says "speed"

Explanation: Listen for "the speed of light". The printed and spoken words share the first letter s, so wait for the full word.

Printed "later", the speaker says "faster"

Explanation: You will hear "go faster than light". They start with different letters, but both end with the same two letters.

"Einstein" matches the audio

Explanation: "Formulated by Albert Einstein in 1905" has a famous name that may look like a trick. The speaker says it exactly as printed, so do not click it.

"Mercury" matches the audio

Explanation: "the planet Mercury in its orbit" has a proper name that might draw your eye. It matches the audio exactly, so do not click it.
