Paragraph list

Absolute location refers to a specific, fixed point on the Earth's surface as expressed by a scientific coordinate system.
It is more precise than the relative location, which describes where a place is located using other places nearby.
This software uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to deliver precise information about the location of any GPS receiver on Earth.
In contrast, a relative location can be as general as "west of the highway".
Nowadays, finding your absolute location at any given time can be done using geolocation software, which is found in most smartphones.

First sentence: Why this is the first line? This paragraph is the first sentence because it introduces the main topic of absolute location. It gives a clear definition without needing other sentences for context. This follows the rule of Topic Sentence. Why other lines are not chosen? The other paragraphs are not chosen because they do not stand alone. For example, Paragraph 2 starts with "It is more precise..." which uses a pronoun and needs the first sentence for context. Paragraph 3 starts with "In contrast..." which is a conjunction. Paragraph 4 starts with "Nowadays..." which does not introduce the topic. Paragraph 5 starts with "This software..." which uses a pronoun that refers back to something not yet mentioned.

Concluding sentence: Why this is the last line? This paragraph is the last sentence because it wraps up the topic by explaining how the software works. It provides a clear conclusion about the use of GPS in finding absolute location.

Paragraph pairs:

  • Pair 1 (Paragraph 1 → Paragraph 2): Paragraph 2 connects to Paragraph 1 because it explains more about absolute location. It uses the Connector strategy by saying it is more precise than relative location.
  • Pair 2 (Paragraph 2 → Paragraph 3): Paragraph 3 connects to Paragraph 2 because it contrasts relative location with absolute location. It uses the Contrast rule to show the difference.
  • Pair 3 (Paragraph 3 → Paragraph 4): Paragraph 4 connects to Paragraph 3 because it shifts focus back to absolute location. It uses the Logical Order strategy by moving from discussing relative location to how to find absolute location.
  • Pair 4 (Paragraph 4 → Paragraph 5): Paragraph 5 connects to Paragraph 4 because it explains how the geolocation software works. It uses the Broader to Specific strategy by first mentioning the software and then explaining its function.
