Option 4: "as they took pictures"

Explanation: This option is correct as it aligns perfectly with the context of the text. It reflects the action of taking pictures, which is a central theme in the discussion of how photography evolved from a cumbersome process to a more accessible pastime.

Option 1: "asking to take pictures"

Explanation: This option is incorrect because it does not fit grammatically or contextually. The phrase 'asking to take pictures' implies a request rather than an action being performed, which does not align with the context of the text discussing the evolution of photography.

Option 2: "as they shot films"

Explanation: This option is incorrect as it introduces the concept of shooting films, which is not mentioned in the text. The text focuses on photography rather than filmmaking, making this option irrelevant.

Option 3: "by taking holiday snaps"

Explanation: This option is incorrect because it suggests a specific context of taking holiday snaps, which is too narrow and does not encompass the broader context of photography discussed in the text.

Option 5: "as they take pictures"

Explanation: This option is incorrect because it uses the present tense 'take,' which does not match the past context of the text discussing the historical development of photography. The text refers to actions that have already occurred, making 'took' the appropriate choice.
